Non-Economic Loss Benefit Payments

Non-economic loss benefits are based on the age of the injured worker and the severity of the permanent impairment sustained by the injured worker. They are awarded to recognize that, beyond a wage loss, an injured worker has also suffered a physical, functional, or psychological loss. Non-economic loss benefits are calculated as a percentage of whole body impairment.

The yearly total of allowed claims receiving a non-economic loss benefit has decreased by 8 per cent since 2012. Overall, this decrease is a reflection of improved injured worker recovery, and of fewer claims entering the system.
