Non-Economic Loss Benefit Payments

Non-economic loss benefits are based on the age of the worker and the severity of the permanent impairment sustained by the injured worker. They are awarded to recognize that, beyond a wage loss, an injured worker has also suffered a physical, functional, or psychological loss.  Non-economic loss benefits are calculated as a percentage of whole body impairment.

The yearly total of allowed claims currently receiving a non-economic loss benefit has decreased by 23 per cent since 2012. Overall, this decrease is reflective of improved injured worker recovery and a decrease in new claims entering the system.
