WSIB Covered Employment by Industry Sector
The distribution of workers among the industry sectors that are covered by the WSIB has remained fairly consistent over the past 10 years. Since 2007, five sectors (services, manufacturing, health care, construction, and transportation) accounted for over 80 per cent of WSIB Covered employment. The significant increases in employment in the construction, health care, and services industry sectors resulted in an overall 11 per cent increase in the number of Schedule 1 workers over the last 10 years.
Comparing 2016 with 2015, the majority of industry sectors experienced an increase in covered employment with the exception of the chemicals/process, manufacturing, mining, and primary metals sectors. With an increase of 11 percent, forestry was the industry sector with the largest proportional increase of covered employment.
