Traumatic fatalities

Allowed traumatic fatalities by year of death

Every year there are Ontarians who die due to a work-related traumatic injury. Over the past 10 years, 92 per cent of all traumatic fatality claims were from men, mostly between the ages of 55 to 59. The construction, transportation, manufacturing and services sectors accounted for 77 per cent of these workplace traumatic incidents.

For Schedule 1 businesses in 2019, 55 people lost their lives because of a workplace traumatic fatality.

 

From 2010 to 2019, the following age groups, industry sectors, events, and gender had the highest traumatic fatality percentages:

  • Age groups: 55 to 59 (12%), 25 to 29 (11%), 40 to 44 (11%), 45 to 49 (11%), 50 to 54 (11%),
  • Industry sectors: Construction (32%), Transportation (22%), Manufacturing (12%) Services (11%)
  • Gender: Men (92%)
