External provider expense payments
Since the implementation of the Work Reintegration Program in November 2010, which focuses on delivering return-to-work services with internal oversight, there continues to be a decrease in the payments to external providers. Overall, the decrease is a reflection of the program’s improved return-to-work outcomes for injured employees, and of fewer claims entering the system.
In 2017, Schedule 1 claims experienced a 15 per cent decrease in external provider payments compared with the prior year. Education and training continues to be the largest category, accounting for 47 per cent of external provider payments in 2017.
